Writing Prompt: 2nd person narrative – direct commands to self

In case I still haven’t found an internet connection … here is a true story written a little differently.  )

The assignment: 2nd person narrative – direct commands to self.

Pull into your parking spot. Jump out of the car. Hurry, you’re running late. Wait! Don’t forget to lint brush.

Let your love for your dogs who shed incredible amounts of fur show in your face as you think about all the hair you have to remove from your pants. Remember they are worth the extra fuss and the few stray hairs that the lint brush never gets.

Now, quickly throw the lint brush back in the car and grab your keys which you left in the ignition. Try not to be so ungraceful. Secure your badge. Straighten up! Press the “lock” button on your key remote at least twenty times. Maybe try to remember to replace the battery soon!

Work it while you walk because … try as you may … you were totally ungraceful when you were grabbing your keys from outside the car, struggling around the steering wheel and then grabbing for stuff on the passenger seat – all without actually having your body in the car.

Move those hips – you have some making up to do!!! Don’t look behind you because the super hottie is RIGHT THERE!

Wave good morning to the security guard. Move in closer for a more formal hello. Glance over your shoulder to see where super hottie ended up. Look away! Look away! Say goodbye to the security guard and smile to yourself because super hottie wasn’t only looking at you when you glanced over your shoulder but he was laughing at you too. Feel content that you entertain him because any attention is better than no attention. Be grateful that he at least notices you.

Also, make a mental note to be more graceful when you are in a hurry. Do the math in your head and realize he would have seen the dance you did while lint brushing your butt. And then recognize that he would have also watched you wrestle with the steering wheel and witnessed you fall over yourself to get your stuff out of your car.

Pick up the pace to make it to the elevator. Be aware that super hottie totally just slowed down for you to catch up. Smile politely at him as you walk past him. Act like you don’t notice he slowed down to walk with you. Remain mysterious.

Be self conscious that you missed a few stray hairs on the back of your black pants as you wait for the elevator. Try not to fidget because super hottie is standing DIRECTLY behind you.

Graciously thank super hottie for being a gentleman when he extends his arm toward the open elevator right next to him, signaling for you to go first.

For real – stop fidgeting, you’ve been alone in the elevator with him before. Cast a quick glance in his direction and then look straight forward. Don’t let your eyes falter. Keep your eyes on the door, he’s closer than you were aware and he will notice if you look at him again… and he probably noticed the quick glance you threw in his direction already.

Breathe. Remember to breathe. Count the floors silently as you pass them. Take a deep breath – it’s ok that it’s taking 40 times longer to get to your floor than usual. Don’t lose your patience just because you’re nervous. Be aware that you’re about to hit his floor but don’t look at him. Stop turning your head in his direction. Wait … stop looking at him. Don’t make eye contact. Hey – stop making eye contact. Don’t smile! STOP SMILING!

Well don’t be surprised that he’s talking to you now. And make sure that he doesn’t see the shocked jubilation all over your face.

Analyze his smirk… it’s teasing … perfect. Look at him innocently. Observe his voice, smooth and deep, “So… Dog or a cat?” Comprehend the question. Really do try not to blush!

Answer, “Two dogs actually.” Smile coyly. Now ramble because you’re nervous, “Kind of a lot but that’s what lint brushes are for. They work ya know?” Feel dumb because you just said something dumb.

Experience relief as he gives you a happy smile and nods his head in affirmation while saying, “Yep.”

Say goodbye as he exits the elevator. Allow the feeling of elation to sink in because he talked to you. Shake your head softly in disbelief and smile as the elevator continues to your floor. Sigh because he’s so adorable.

Marvel that you keep getting stuck in the same elevator with him but be cautious not to label it fate just yet – although it really is amazing that out of the thousands of people in the building he is the only one you happen to ride the elevator with time and time again.

Dream about the next time you will see him. Hope it will be soon.

Checking in!

Hello Hello!!

So the cruise has been super fun so far. We’ve been at sea for two 1/2 days and land tomorrow. I’m excited to do a bit of exploring.

I was mildly sea sick day one – but today I feel great! YAY!!! I have sea legs. :)

There have been lots of fun things to do aboard the ship. I’ve made friends with some of the staff and they are so nice!!!

We played Win Lose or Draw yesterday and our team SMOKED the others. lol. I was nominated as Doodler and my drawings were KILLER. :)

Adorable boy is actually a D.B. :( But it’s all good. I didn’t come on this trip for him – he just gave me the extra incentive to make it happen.

The guys we sit with at dinner are SO awesome. They look out for Linds and I and are like cool older brothers or cousins. They taught me some new code words – like “23 – 20″ LOL!!! Anytime we see someone with fashion violations they’ll be like “There’s a 23 – 20 violation” and then they list the violation. It’s so hilarious. W is the 23rd letter in the alphabet. T is the 20th. :) So funny!!!

Ok I really need to go – I have to pay to be online. Hope everyone is doing well!!! I’ll try and write again soon.

Oh and btw – BIG TIME GOSSIP coming at you soon – this cruise is one adventure after another. Just don’t have time to write about Adorable’s attempts to reinact the Titanic or how he wounded my ego. lol. I would have preferred a slap in the face!

Ah – soon. I’ll be back in less than a week. :)

It was a crazy week

Last week was a craaazzzyyy week.  I met a lot of new people, went on more dates than there were days in the week (yikes!) hit the 13 lb weight loss mark – am soooo happy about that!  And then booked myself on a last minute Mexican Riviera Cruise.  YAY!!!

I don’t have time to write more of my Australian Story before I leave (sorry!) but I thought I’d do a quick future post so you all have something to read in case I can’t find an internet connection.  ) )

Right now I’m somewhere on the pacific ocean wearing a lot of sunblock and trying to attend as many cruise activites as I can.  My friends are all planning to spend all day, every day, at the pool or on the beach.  That’s fun for sure!  But I live 60 seconds walking distance from one of the best beaches in EVER so I’m going to take this opportunity for some fun diverse experience.  What?  There’s an ice sculpture show?  Sign me up!  And a flower demonstration?  Oh my gosh!  I’ll be there!  Hee hee.  This is going to be a riot.

I’m completely serious about trying to squeeze in as many cruise activities as possible.  It’s going to ROCK!  Most of it will be … umm … interesting?? well at least entertaining!!! (because I’ll be making fun of it in my head – wait – I mean I’ll be enjoying it.  ;))

I’m going to attempt to take as many pics as possible and do a bit of video so you can all enjoy the craziness right along with me.  ) I’m afraid I will be going to most of these activities alone (my Utah friends could NEVER resist some time in the sun) but that is actually exciting too!  I can’t wait!!

So … Happy week!!!  And when I hit an internet cafe in Cabo I’ll give you a live update.  ) YAY!!!

What did Daisy Pack?

I was SO proud of myself on this trip.  I usually am a REALLY heavy lightweight packer.  But this time I fit all 7 days of stuff into the second to largest (not the largest) luggage piece in my set and only one very small, over-the-shoulder, carry on.  My parents are impressed and you should be too.  ;)

So what did I take?  Check this out – it’s awesome.

  • 3 books
  • a journal
  • only like 2 pairs of jeans and one pair of slacks, 5 skirts, 4 shorts
  • 4 casual dresses and 2 formal dresses
  • 3 pair of flip flops and 2 pair of high heels
  • 2 bikinis
  • 2 jackets and 2 hoodies
  • a bajillion shirts (like seriously I probably have at LEAST 20)
  • and 6 – yes SIX – lotion products, plus make-up, hair stuff, a straight iron etc.

But I got ALL OF THIS – barely enough for 7 days ;) – into one luggage piece that isn’t even my biggest piece.  WAHOO!!!

Ooh – but I just realized I didn’t pack sunblock and probably won’t be able to find a store open early enough tomorrow to get it.  Joy joy joy – maybe I can buy a $20 bottle on the ship.  (roll my eyes.)

BTW – have you ever taken a lint brush roller to your skin?  I never had until Lint Roller Boy (who I went out with this week) saw that I had glitter on my arm and FREAKED OUT and had to lint roller my arm to get it off.  Seriously – he was completely serious.  He DESPISES glitter and made that VERY clear.  No joke.

Hmm …  anyone else find that odd?  Maybe more than odd?

A glimmer of hope becomes a reality – I’m off to Mexico for a week!! :)

A glimmer of hope.  So small you’re afraid it may only be your wild imaginings.  You do a reality check.  You make sure you’re grounded and look again.  It’s there.  But very faint.

All measures to strengthen the possibility of success are undertaken.  It seems each step closer is accompanied with two that push you farther away because you’re working against the clock.  But you still hope.  And even as the glimmer begins to fade from sight you keep it alive in your heart.  Maybe – just maybe – the world will work its magic and fate will spin you in the direction you wish.

It’s silly really.  I didn’t even imagine it was a possibility until about 8:30 pm last night.  But even in that small window of time, from then until now, I hoped it would work.  I had hope I could make it happen.  I called every agency I could find.

No luck.

What a shame.  He was adorable.   I was positively taken in by his romantic charm when he chased me down and very publicly (in front of an entire party) got my number because though he hadn’t ever met me, he had seen me 6 months ago, remembered me, (I remembered him too!) and he wasn’t going to allow me to walk out of his life again without a proper introduction.

He took me to dinner last night. He was supposed to be in Long Beach but caught a later flight and worked it out so that he could still take me to dinner.  That’s right.  He made sure he could take me to dinner before I leave for Australia.  Can we say “charming?”  We only got 2.5 hours together but he was adorable the entire time (the cute flattery he was throwing down didn’t hurt either.) ) And since he’s a friend of a friend, and a very wanted bachelor, I know it was saying something for him to not only coordinate time to see me on the day of his flight but also to give up a FRIDAY night, and to be my date at MY friend’s surprise birthday dinner.

HOWEVER – completely aside from him – I wanted to go anyway!  Linds and I had talked about it before but I wasn’t going to be in town so we didn’t book it.  You see I SHOULD be in Australia right now – but a mess up at school kept me in Utah longer.

And then he happened to mention he would be going on the VERY cruise Linds and I had wanted to book.  He turned to me and with an adorable smile he said, “Please come!” and I thought – why not?  We know tons of people on the cruise and even if I spend no time with him at all – I’ll be having fun and spending time with other friends!!

And that’s when we saw a glimmer of hope – which was almost smashed after 12 hours of searching for an available room with no luck.  The ship was sold out and it leaves TOMORROW.

And now – RIGHT NOW – I’ve just sent in a confirmation of booking.  In an unexpected twist of fate, a travel agency in Canada called Carnival at the very moment someone cancelled and we were able to take the room.  ) The VERY LAST ROOM.  A room that no other agency had been able to procure.

So folks – I’m off to Mexico!!  I’ll take tons of pics and will undoubtedly have GREAT stories to tell soon.  )
