– now onto the post:
They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. I HATE that saying. Not only does it conjure up graphic images of blood and guts (well – the stomach IS in your gut!) but it reminds me of Homer Simpson and donuts, and sausages and that nasty gargling noise … GROSS! And sooooo not romantic! And yeah yeah – I know – YOU imagine candlelit dinners and slaving away in the kitchen for hours – but me? blood and guts – and Homer Simpson.
What does this have to do with ANYTHING?? Well I’ll tell you because you asked (wait … umm…)
One time (on Wednesday night) #3 sent me this text saying he wanted to take me dancing. BECAUSE I LOVE DANCING!! And he said we’d go on a crawl til we found a place I liked. Being the skeptical chica that I am I was like – “OMGOSH THAT’S SO CUTE” – I mean – I was like “WHAT. EEVV. EERRR!” and then I proceeded to be more high maintenance than I’d like to admit.
You see I am kind of a music snob.
What was that Daisy? Did you say something? Nope – not me! I’m merely very picky a little SELECTIVE about what type of music I will dance to – and most of the AUS bubble-gum/trance/every-song-sounds-exactly-the-same-with-a-few-80s-or-90s-thrown-in/music just doesn’t cut it for me. I like to pop-lock-and-drop it
and I LOVE a tight beat. ![]()
BUT … there isn’t really a hip-hop scene here. And when #3 asked around for me the only “GREAT GREAT” clubs suggested were ones I had already ranked as a -10 on a 3 point scale. So you can imagine I was not optimistic he would be able to pull a hip-hop club out of his bag of tricks.
We started the night off at a “poppin” club where there was a nice queue (line) and where they promised they were the closest thing to pop-40 hip hop style music. DOUBLE SUCK! I gave it a fair try but finally #3 said, “Alright you, that’s the last thumbs down you’re going to give this club – we’re heading somewhere else” (what?? I throw a thumbs down when the music sucks
)and he grabbed my hand and led me out.
WE WALKED ALL OVER THE CROSS! We asked bouncer after bouncer – everyone was like, “THIS is dance music” and every time #3 would look at me hopefully and every time I would shake my head – NO WAY. Finally I was ready to call it quits. Maybe it was silly to think we could find USA beats in an AUS city. Plus I TRIED to dance to Australian dance music – it just wasn’t me.
I thanked #3 profusely for trying AND for putting up with my discontent and then said with a little devilsh grin that we could have our OWN dance-a-thon with my ipod and HE SAID NO!!!!
WHHAAATT?? [shake head] WWHHHAAATTT?? Did #3 turn me down? Umm … umm … WHAT!?!?!?!
He said no. He was DETERMINED to fulfill his promise.
Oh for the love of! GRRR ![]()
He dragged me to one final club. Like literally. I refused to go inside and he refused to accept my refusal.
We walked in and lo and behold there was golden music flowing from the tightest musical dj fountain of all time!!!
Ok ok – maybe not OF ALL TIME but after a night of disappointment – WHEW! and YAY!!!! What was that I heard? Oh yes – oh yes – Pitbull, Flo Rida, Kid Cudi etc – oh my my my – let the booty poppin begin!!
Was the club ghetto? Yes. Was there a $20 cover charge even though the club was ghetto? Yes. Were there many people there? No – it was ghetto and hip hop. Did the music make up for it? H.E. DOUBLE YES!! And then #3 and I danced until he was tired. HAHA! I can dance ALL NIGHT LONG!
Oh! What was the name of the club? that’s a REALLY good question.
Boutique Sydney
And I guess the final question is how many points did #3 score for not only planning this dance-a-thon in advance – JUST BECAUSE HE KNOWS I LOVE DANCING, but also for putting up with my being picky SELECTIVE, for not letting me give up and for going all over town hunting for the impossible just to put a smile on my little dancing face? AND THEN when he realized he’s going to need a few new dance moves to keep up – he offered to arrange instruction for the two of us with some of the hottest dancers in Sydney…. umm yeah.
So back to the first part – the way to a man’s heart MAY be through his stomach but the way to MINE?? Definitely has to involve music and dancing. ![]()

The thing about your blog is that quite often it reinfoces valueable lessons to us all. Today’s lesson is “Never give up hope”
I’m glad that, when it was all said and done, and after all the frustration and disappointment, you ended up having a fantastic night =D, made all the more fantastic of course by the earlier frustration and disappoinment and searching finally paying off.
woah! I think I like #3 more and more each time you write about him. I’m the exact opposite of you! I LOVE electo/trance/dance music and I’m not hte biggest fan of hip hop. So, while I don’t love dancing in the states at clubs, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED clubbing in Europe!
DAMMIT!!! POP LOCK AND DROP IT is now stuck in my head & I also want to go to the club. But I am in big city Columbus, OH that acts like a small town with no good dance clubs!! :(
Are you friggin’ kidding me? I’m f’n googling everywhere for a hip hop club in Sydney and you can’t even remember the name of the club? you know who Flo Rida and Kid Cudi are but you don’t know the name of the only decent HH club where you live? That’s sad honey.
For those readers who had a difficult time figuring out my “secret code”
THE NAME OF THE HIP HOP CLUB IS BOUTIQUE SYDNEY :)
In addition a reader submitted the following:
V Bar on saturday
Brooklyn Hotel on Friday
Eastern on wednesday
Me and about 30 of my teammates from UPENN (in Philly in the US) will be in Sydney from March 6th-14th for Spring break. We’lll be there to play rugby and just chill. The hip hop scene is pretty strong here and I’m trying to line up places to hit when we’re down there. Any suggestions?
