Oh seriously – choosing a Master’s degree shouldn’t be that difficult! But it IS!!!
I’m stuck!!
I have until Monday to pick 2 options.
Ultimately I would like to work in a creative arts field – writing, public speaking, training, publishing, advertising, television, or any combination of those. HOWEVER - I don’t need to work in that field YET. I’m ok being successful in the corporate world first.
I enjoy psychology, coaching, being creative and finding solutions – including dispute resolution. I HATE the tiny details – I’m a big picture person. My strengths are planning and creating – not implementing.
Thank you in advance for voting.
I know it’s ME who has to decide. But it’s fun to see what people think. I have more info on each degree below the poll. ![]()

So here are the options I’ve narrowed it down to:
1. Master of Strategic Public Relations - focuses on professional PR with an emphasis on corporate and political communication.
Pros: seems fun. PR can be a demanding job that requires a great deal of creativity and conflict resolution skills.
Cons: what would I REALLY do as a PR agent? Most of the fun jobs are already taken.
2. Master of Professional Communication - focuses on text production (producing effective written and spoken texts in a range of professional contexts) and text reception (analyzing a wide variety of texts relevant to professional communication practices).
Pros: heaving writing emphasis. One of the classes is Magazine Making where you actually make a magazine. Seems more like what I ultimately want to do.
Cons: what do you actually do with a degree like this?
3. Master of Organizational Coaching - provides a sound grounding in the theoretical and methodological aspects of coaching psychology and teaches fundamental applied coaching skills.
Pros: growing field. I have enjoyed the coaching I’ve done in the past. I LOVE teaching.
Cons: usually coaches are 14+ years older than me. Maybe be hard to establish myself as a coach.
4. Master of Creative Writing – In Creative Writing, students develop their own writing skills through a series of structured workshops led by leading practitioners from various genres.
Pros: This would be an AWESOME degree!
Cons: What do you do with this degree? It’s a great idea but I’m not sure how practical it is.
4.5. Juris Doctorate (Law Degree) – I’ve been accepted to Law School previously but I didn’t go because I wasn’t sure I REALLY wanted to be an attorney. It’s been 5 years since I was accepted but I think I’ll sit for the LSAT again in December and leave it open as an option.

PR people can work in a lot of different capacities in any large marketing dept. I think you get to use A LOT of your creative thinking skills in that job: and I know you don’t like to be bored so i think you should go for that.
oops… I voted without actually reading the descriptions :) The coaching one sounds good, but I say if you’re gonna do that- you might as well do psychology. You can do more with psychology- INCLUDING coaching if you choose :)
You will excel at whatever you chose, I’m sure.
Hope our votes steer you toward a clearer decision.
I think you would like Public Relation like Lorrie said…you’re an amazing writer too. I don’t think that all the fun jobs are taken either…remember your thing you did at work to make everyone happy that’s something public relation people do!
I voted for all four of them. You will enroll in each before you’re done. :)
