When I was about 8 my only career ambition was to be the first woman president of the United States of America. That’s right. There were NO doubts in my mind about what I wanted to do nor doubts that I COULD achieve my dream.
I stayed fairly true to my goal and at the age of 21 graduated with a B.S. and was accepted to Law School. I was on the fast-track to success right? I’ll show THEM!
Ahh … not quite. This is when disenchantment set in. Being a lawyer wouldn’t help me change the world – it’d only secure a spot for me in the lovely rat-race of bureaucracy. No thank you.
I declined my offer to attend the school and 5 years later found myself here, in Sydney, where I could potentially have a career with global impact.
Potentially is the key word. However, with my knack for rocking the boat like there’s a hurricane/tsunami around the corner … I doubt I’ll win many friends here.
No worries! Here are my NEW goals for what I want to be when I grow up. :)
- To learn how to make the yummiest (for REAL yummy not for fake yummy) gluten-free treats. And then after I’ve taken the State Fair by storm and won ALL of the HIGH Blue Ribbons, I’ll move on to publishing my collection of delectable gluten-free dessert recipes. But why stop there? I see a COOKING SHOW in the future. :)
- With my new found cooking talents I have no doubt I’ll be an amazing hostess. Move over Martha Stewart! Wait til you see MY cooking/entertaining magazine!
- And then with my celebrity status ;) I’ll adopt a child and plaster myself over the tabloids. I may even sell my story about the bitter life of being discriminated against as an American in Australia. HAHA!
- My story will sell wildly and I’ll be offered a book deal to write children’s literature. No Harry Potter’s for me – instead I’ll write about pretty flowers and butterflies. :)
- Last but not least, I will have so many connections in so many places that I’ll return to my childhood goal and finally run for President. Hey – it’s entirely possible. ;)
For now – I’ll settle with my newest “When I grow up” goal: Learning to decorate cakes.

HHIMML!!!
The picture from Flickr by Cupcake Queen.
HWTM’s Blog is where I saw the lovely cupcakes presented.
yay!! what a great idea!! are you going to go to pastry school now?? are you comming home?
I WISH!!!
Everything comes in full circle, especially a pretty gluten free hamburger cake.. with buns.
Ok seriously – does anyone have any idea what the tomatoes and mustard are made of? I think I’ve sorted out all the rest of the ingredients … but that tomato thing – maybe a glob of frosting? It’s shiny – but that could mean it’s fondant? Oh well – I’ll figure it out in November.
I’m sure it’s really soft fondant…does the cupcake queen use anything else? ;) what happens in november?? you are being quite cryptic little girl
The mustard looks like coloured thickened cream, though the tomato lookes like icing and I’m sure they’re both the same thing just with different essences.
Those cupcakes are the cutest things I’ve ever seen. I love food that’s made to look like some other kind of food. I think you’re right about the tomatoes, too.
AND, you should be so glad you didn’t go to law school. Almost everyone I know who started out with aspirations to help people and save the world have ended up as miserable desk jockeys.
Ok I’m going to try it out with fondant and then take a picture – we all know it isn’t going to look a THING like the original but that’s ok because it will TASTE better. :)
I’m thinking brownies for the beef though … mmm … but maybe that’d look too gross?
Oh and Tonya I’m coming home in November for Thanksgiving through Christmas and then I’ll be back here to finish up a Masters. I’m in the process of changing my Masters but I won’t know if it’s all good for a couple months. I’ll keep you up to speed. :)
have you tried gluten free cake before? I know they have mixes…wonder if they rise at all?? hmmm..can’t wait to see how they turn out :)
cuteeeee
