Today was the City2Surf. According to the Sydney Morning Herald 70,000 people ran/jogged/walked 14km and raised over $1 million AUD for local charities. Amazing and fantastic!
There were 5 helicopters circling over Bondi this morning.
Bondi was packed!!!

Lovely morning – barely a cloud in the sky – until about noon. And then a bitter wind picked up and it started raining. It was SOOOO cold. I didn’t spend much time at the beach. Caroline was hosting a cancer-fundraising barbecue and I decided to go. I spent a few hours there and then had to go home to put on some warmer clothes!!!
Once properly attired for the change in weather, I hit up a couple other parties. One of which the police called a “riot” and they formed a police line to force people off the street. Lots of people were really upset about this and yelled a lot to the police saying no one is allowed to have fun in Australia. I heard “The police do nothing but police fun.” And “Oh no we’re having fun. Better call the police” over and over again. But when the police line approached the group I was with, I found the officers to be very cordial. And when two lady officers escorted one drunk half-clothed chic off the premises – they were terribly professional about it – but professional or not – it’s incredibly dramatic to see two cops grab someone by each arm and rush them away. lol. I think it would suck to be an Australian police officer – especially when trying to break up a huge street party full of drunk Australians!!!
Anyway – by 6:00 pm I was exhausted (lol – I sound so pathetic!) But you will all be proud of me! I went home and studied. YAY!!! And then after getting through a bit of reading I remembered the essay I forgot to write. Joy of all joys. Guess I’ll be up and at it early tomorrow. Wish me luck!!! :)

The five helicopters would’ve been for the television coverage. Its quite a popular event in Sydney. Alot of my friends were involved. I opted to spend my time in the gym instead, away from the strange ass weather.
Do you know why the police were there? I mean, do you know about the race riots from a couple of years ago? There is a very real reason there was a police presence, even if it was a little over the top.
One thing I will say about Australians, they rarely know how to have a good time without getting drunk. Thankfully I’m a happy drunk though I haven’t had a drop since last new years eve. A resolution I regretted soon after making it since I love beer and wine so much :(
Funny… I just saw some of the Olympics coverage, and the poor women’s cyclers were getting absolutely soaked. The weather is being a bit of a jerk to athletes, it seems!
I learned about the Cronulla riots in school and definitely agree with you that there was a very real reason for them being there.
I don’t have a problem with police or a police presence. I just felt bad that so many were disrespectful to the officers.
Oh and Congrats on being sober for 8 months! (even if you’re not particularly happy about the choice.) :)
